John's 5 Fan-Fic Reviews

Of Death and Moonbeams (Twin Peaks)

This fan-fiction fires the embers of love between Agent Cooper and Audrey Horne from the TV series Twin Peaks. The story follows Agent Cooper as he and Audrey let their simmering love come out fully into the open.

This fan-fiction is full of tender romantic dialogue and intimate imagery. This story offers readers a richly descriptive backdrop and although it does have a tendency to over-sell the importance of the "moment" it still remains touching nevertheless.

 Aaron’s First Christmas (Lost)
This fan-fiction follows the characters of Charlie, Claire and baby Aaron, as Charlie tries to instill some Christmas spirit into a dejected Claire. This fanfic is rather similar to the TV series and doesn’t really create too much of an alternative storyline.
This story might be swift but it rather sweetly paints the relationship of co-dependency that these two share. However the dialogue is too straight to the point and the characters aren’t really developed, and had that been the case it would have made this fanfic more vivid and imaginative.

Switching Sides Never Felt so Better (Damages)
This fanfic follows Ellen Parsons and her disillusionment with her law career. The first part of the narrative is set 2 years ahead of the second part, and focuses mainly on all the turmoil and strife that has inhibited her life because of her career.
This fan-fic marries original aspects of the TV series and new plot twists rather nicely. The chronological jump in narrative and the way the story focuses on two characters point-of-view in one fan-fic can be a bit confusing at times, but it rather loyally keeps to the serialised style of the show instead of forging a distinct new direction.

Happily Ever After (Desperate Housewives)

This fan-fiction presents an envisioned scene between the ladies of Desperate Housewives and some incoming neighbours. It is delivered through script form which has an emphasis on dialogue in addition to some stage direction.
It rather succinctly follows a typical day’s events on Desperate Housewives with biting humour and a focus on ensemble-style narrative. It doesn’t quite capture the salacious nature of the show, but it’s a narrative that could easily slip into the Desperate Housewives catalogue.

This fan-fic follows the central figure of Don Draper from the television show Mad Men as he has an office rendezvous with a mysterious women named Jane. It is a rather short and simple story which does offer a surprising twist at the end.
For someone who has casually watched the show I feel this fan-fic invoked the strong and isolated nature of Don perfectly and didn’t need a lot of a dialogue to do so. This fan-fic works perfectly as a taster of what people can expect from the characters although it does fail to really re-create the rich 1960’s atmosphere on which the show so heavily leans upon.

  1. Great reviews! I really like the length of your reviews. It doesn't go into too much detail so it doesn't give away anything important. You had really good points abut the fanfics (Mad Men woo!)
